Virtual Training for Heat Exchanger Tube Inspection

Powerd by YVR

Project Overview:

This project focuses on developing a VR training program for heat exchanger tube inspection, specifically addressing both the “as-found” and “after-clean” procedures. The goal is to standardize training for inspectors and ensure consistent communication and protocols, particularly for PTT, which often faces challenges with outsourced inspection services.

Traditional Work Challenges

PTT has traditionally relied on hiring outsourced inspectors for maintenance processes. However, this approach presents several challenges:

    • Inconsistent Protocols: Each inspection company may follow different protocols, leading to inconsistencies in inspection quality and procedures.
    • Communication Gaps: Differences in communication styles and procedures between PTT engineers and outsourced inspectors can lead to misunderstandings and errors.
    • Time Constraints: The maintenance process is often rushed, increasing the likelihood of mistakes and oversight.

How VR Tackles These Problems:

Our VR training program is designed as a pilot project to revolutionize how PTT trains and evaluates outsourced inspectors. By immersing inspectors in a virtual environment that simulates real-world conditions, the training program allows for:

  • Hands-On Practice: Inspectors can practice each step of the inspection process in a controlled, risk-free environment. This helps them understand precisely what is required and expected at each stage.
  • Standardized Training: VR training ensures that all inspectors follow the same protocols and procedures, reducing variability in inspection quality.
  • Enhanced Communication: The VR program includes scenarios that emphasize effective communication between inspectors and PTT engineers, ensuring that both parties are aligned in their expectations and methods.
  • Real-Time Feedback: Inspectors receive immediate feedback during their training, allowing them to correct mistakes and improve their skills before performing actual inspections.

Potential Impact:

If successful, this pilot project could set a new standard for training and testing outsourced inspectors. It offers a scalable solution for PTT to ensure that all inspectors are well-prepared and consistent in their work, ultimately improving the efficiency and reliability of maintenance processes.

This innovative approach not only enhances the skills and readiness of inspectors but also helps PTT maintain high standards of safety and performance in their operations.
